Right now it Looks fast, but its got a stock 1.8 in it with a main bearing goin out, the person who had it last did all kinds of jerry riggin to the wiring, and it will do 85 on a good day. Good points are it has a decent yellow paint job and nice rims and a glass pack, hehe. It was this way when I bought it. What I plan to do is drop a 350 in it along with a 5 speed. Flowmasters. Thinkin about baggin' it. Redo wiring. Put a removable hard top kit, hard shell toneau(?) cover, shaved handels, flush the bed side panels to match cab (yes I too thought about it, he he), make the whole engine compartment lift foreward (forget what it's called, but where the front fenders, hood, and all lift foreward exposing entire engine) Paint will be a midnight blue chamelion with two 6" black stripes down the middle.

Drove it through high school and after moving to Denver I got serious into building it into a show truck around 1988, after dumping about $12,000 into it while making between $3.35 and $9.00 an hour, I spent 1988-1997 showing pretty heavy around the Denver area. Includes taking first place in several Super Chevy Shows, World of Wheels, Thunder Mtn Truck fest (first 5 years in a row). After customizing styles changing in the sport truck world, my truck became outdated and I retired it from showing in 97. It now spends its days in my father's garage in Wyoming. Notes: My luv truck is still all factory. I bought it from a guy that let it sit outside most of it's life. He drove the truck until he put 100,000 miles on it then he let it sit because he bought something else. The rust has taken over the whole truck. I have been driving the luv for 5 years now. The luv has over 285,000 miles on the stock drivetrain. It burns a quart of oil every hour I drive it. I'll keep driving it until the engine stops running. This just goes to show all luv owners that no matter how bad these trucks are treated they keep going. I only paid 500 dollars for this luv and to this day it has never left me stranded on the side of the road. The only maintenance that I have done to the truck since I've owned it was a tune up and oil changes. The brakes had to be replaced. Other than that the truck doesn't want to stop. I'll let everybody know when she finally takes her last drop of fuel.

Notes: I bought this truck in need of a lot of repair, basically everything the previous owner had worked on needed to be fixed. I built a 2 inch body lift from scratch and it came lifted 2-3inches in the suspension, I dropped the front about an inch to get it off the bump stops. It now carries me to work every day, and off road on the rare occasion I need it to. It is white with blue interior, factory A/C, chrome pushbar, chrome visor, bucket seats from a mid 70s camaro, and is waiting for me to paint a rollbar and tube rear bumper. I doubt it will ever be "done" because there is always something else you can do to a LUV.

Notes: 80 Chev Luv 4x4. It's an awesome truck, it only had 127,000 miles on it, every thing on it works, even the original am radio with the word LUV on it still works. The only problem there's not many music stations left on the am band. The paint is exceptional considering the age of the truck, with a few rust spots, hope to get it repaint in the original color next summer. The only major problem I'll run into is the 4x4 decal and stripes.

It came with a matching Chinook camper.After the 4 cylinder died it was powered by a 65 327 and power glide with a ford 8 inch rear. it had a 350 th400 combo for a couple of years. About 12 years ago he converted it to 4wheel drive with a toyota front axle and nissan transfer case.It currently has the 65 327 and a 3speed stick.I have it now and besides a couple of broken luv rear axles and a few u joints and a 4 speed it is still going strong . I plan on installing a ford 9 inch in the future and some traction bars to stop axle rap.I will post a picture in the near future.

In all, we have only $800 in motor. The truck runs very good for what we have in it. It's best run is a 6.90 @ 98 mph. It pulls 1.45 sixty foots. WITH NO NOS. People at our track can't believe that.

I sold a 72 full size chevy with a 383 stroker and I miss the power and the excitement of blasting through the quater mile. I've got plans to install a 625 horsepower small block, turbo 350 tranny and a ford nine inch. I like the body style and the look of the truck. It's all original even has the working a/c, I wanna try and retain this throughout the v8 transformation. It gets a little warm here in the summer, no matter how fast your ride is you don't look good in it sweatting buckets!

Notes: I have a 1980 Chevy Luv 4x4 that is highly modified! Pretty much everything on it has been changed except for the body. The axles and suspension are from an 81 toyota 4x4. The engine is a 4.3 liter V6 out of a 93 Chevy truck. It has a Holley four barrel and Hedman Hedders...estimated 200+ HP. It is backed by a turbo 350 tranny with shift kit and 2500 stall converter, and a NP208C transfer case splits the power. It currently rides on 33 x 12.50-15 Swampers, soon to be 38's. Future plans include front and rear lockers, a winch, a full roll cage, a supercharger and new suspension all the way around. Check it out at my website.

I have a '75 luv and I just bought a 350 small block and I am rebuilding a th350 and putting a shift kit in it. This is my senior project. My olds was totaled and I am putting all the money into the truck. My olds was fast and I have only lost races to two cars with it, both my friends. one was a 67 cornet with a 440 and the other was a ford probe GT. My luv has to beat them so if you have any good tips let me know. I need all the info to build a fast street legal luv.

Notes: The vehicle was built from several different years.The front end from an earlier 72/73 model and the back end from a 74/79 model.The cab and front fenders were stretched 6in.The bed sides were cut off at the front 6in and are removable.The drip rails on the cab was removed and moved outward 3/16 in to allow the lexan window to be put on the face of the door for better aerodynamics. I custom made the chassis the fit this many different modifications. Along with the removable bed sides,the doors and front end is removable.The floor on the passenger side is removable along with the tunnel and drive loop and it's tunnel.

They are 2in. runners into 3 1/2 collectors through mufflers and dump in front of the rear tires. after breaking my my first tranny and ballooning my converter I now Have a new tranny and a custom built roadrunner converter that stalls at 5000RPM , and I just hooked up the 150 hp. nitrous kit dont know what it will do yet was running mid 10's with a cracked tranny and bad converter. looking for mid to low 9's in the quarter mile videos to follow!

Notes: My 74 is nothing spectacular. The engine is a std bore 350 with stock pistons. THe heads are cast iron gm head i dont know exactly what they are off of but they have had some serious port and polish work. te valves are 2.02. trans is a th350 with a 4000 stall the rear consists of a 9" ford with 33 spline axles and 4.30 gears. that is connected to a 3 link and floaters on stock luv springs. Pinion angle is set at negative 4 1/2 degrees i run 26x8.5 m/t sthe best time yet is a 7.33 on motot and a 6.84 @99.7 on a 125 shot in the 1/8th with a 1.39 short time the paint is by far the most outstanding feature all the credit goes to Hard Kore Kustom Paint of Fredericksburg va if you can dream it he can paint it give him a buzz ask for eric.too elaborate to list all the work and colors check it out in the pics.

At first i thought chevy luvs were dumb and all I wanted to do is throw it away. But now that ive learned my chevy luv is one of the best and original in vancouver(from what ive seen). I dont know much about the engine but i will learn. Me and my dad just put a 1981 rebuilt isuzu pup 4 cylinder 1.8liter in the truck (don't laugh we were gonna put a 350 v8 but it would of taking alot of work and would have had alot of power for my first car,pardon me truck). I really want to spruce my truck up with a new paint job and rims. But i dont know if ill be looked down on in the chevy luv community which hopefully i can become part of some day. I would like ot paint my truck black and throw a set of chrome rims on it but i dont know if thats what your suppose to do with luvs(did that just sound dumb). I am in the process of a 4" chop job, narrowed frame with 4-link, front coil over conversion, etc.... I have never done any of this type of work other than minor body work so it is truly a learning experience. I plan to have this complete by late 2003 and ready to race for the 2004 season. The 400cid Chevy pushing the Ford 9" and 14" slicks should put it in the high 9's to low 10's in the quarter. See ya at the track!!!

Notes: My truck was built for me by my husband. The engine is a 468 cubic inch big block chevy, performer rpm intake, 750 Edlbrock carb, very reliable. It will cruise all day long at 185 degrees during Hot August Nights in Reno. It has a super T-10 4-speed with an hydraulic clutch pedal, which is a whole lot easier to depress than linkages. The rear end is a ford 9 inch posi with 350 gears while retaining the stock six bolt pattern. The steering colume is out of a 1978 trans am of course it is a tilt and the colume key operates just like a normal car. The dash is customized with a 160 mph speedo recessed inside. It has a set of Simpson 5 point harnesses. The body has a bunch of added body work that the normal person would not notice. The hood is an all steel custom made functioning cowl induction set-up off of an 1970 chevelle SS, spare parts left over from other projects that we have. The paint is porsche red. It has never been raced on a drag strip but let me tell you it is FAST!

That was 1991.Ran it at the strip that year and turned 8.00s and 20s....burning the 215x14" skins most all the way. The engine was 76cc pocket ported/port matched,single points with stock coil,4 bolt,TRW forged pistons,polished rods,sps rod bolts,zoom double roller,Lunati Bracket Master II, Performer RPM, Double Pumper, and other goodies. It turned over 7 grand but I shifted around 6. To make a long story short the engine was pulled for a complete resto and it was stolen.Bummer..it let all the air out of my balloon.With a kid and more responsibilities I put it on the back burner until last year in 2002.What a mess it was. New engine and drivetrain: 360 Chevy,Flat Tops,2.02/1.60 Swirled Stainless,64cc pocket ported/port matched,Polished Rod Beams W/ARP bolts,Melling High Pressure,Lunati cam 1 degree advanced,Dynagear double roller,Block Hugger Headers,Weiand single plane,Double Pumper,TH350 w/3000 stall,4:11 gears,aluminum radiator,billet pulleys,1 wire alternator,Autogage,Mallory,20,000 GVW trannie cooler with fan mounted under bed. Notes: I bought my luv for $200.00 I planned on putting a v8 in it but when I went to pick it up I found out that the truck was all original and in good cond. and that I was going to be the 2nd owner. The body is perfectly straight with a little bit of rust under both doors. The seat was pretty much shot and so was the dash, but I am putting bucket seats in it, and have already ordered a new dash pad. The inside of the bed is perfect not a single dent in it, the old man I bought it from kept a rubber mat in the bed, and said he hardly ever hauled anything in it. I decided to leave it as just a clean/stock every day driver. I also bought a 1973 luv that I found setting in the yard of a trailor shop. I only paid $50.00 for it and the body is OK it has a little bit of rust, and it has been sitting out in the weather for the last couple of years with out any glass in it. I plan to drop a good strong 350 in it sometime next year.

It took 5 months to get another one and it was only 1/2" off center! Ive decided to cut my losses and keep it. Maybe some creative body work & flames will hide it. Notes: I bought my luv in june, and have done very little 4 wheeling action. I plan on lifting it and putting tires on. Just put in a new clutch, and brakes. It has a 1800 cc motor, 4 speed, 4x4, 2 10" subs, with 600 watt amp, 2 5 1/4" door speakers, and a cd player. Also, I removed the rear bumper and put on a piece of 4" channel with a trailer hitch (for the boat), and plan on building a tube front bumper/brush guard.

Notes: I have a 1980 chevy luv long bed 2wd. She is red has the stock 1.8 litter, well actually i just rebuilt the whole engine from the ground up. It is bored out .020, has new pistons, new rings, bearings valve guides. Well the list goes on. I bought a weber for her. I am going to by a new hedder. It has 2 1/4 in pipe all the way back to a turbo muffler. All I can say is that these old trucks are great, they are so fun to drive get desent gas mileage, unless you drop a V8 in them. All in all they are in my opinion the best truck ever made by far!!!!!!

Well heres my story, for all who would like to listen, who ever said u couldnt buy luv, well i bought mine for a mere 800 the engine was rebuilt in 95 since then only small upgrades new pumps ect , org am radio still in the dash cd changer in the glove, re done baby blue, new primer and finish , although the weather has taken a slight toll, i will be redoing the paintjob interior and window tinting is on its way courtsey of B&B window tinting, i want to change out my old mirrors and in the future, a new engine most likley to be rebuilt by myself and most likley taken from another dead body unless i can find a good deal on a small block witch is what i really want in the pictures shown there is a black leather cover for my tool box and not shown is the leather cover for the bed, custom Chevy wheels with dist- slim line whitewall, looks ohh so classic

Notes: My LUV truck is still and always undergoing modifcations and work. It has a 283 small block chevy, with a Turbo 350 transmission. The 283 is basically stock with exceptions of HEi distibutor, 4 barrel carb with lowrise intake. Exhaust is going to be 2.5" dual with glasspacks. Right now it has the stock rear end but and upgrade to a 9" or a chevy 12 bolt is in the future. Body is rough, but a donor LUV might change that in the future as well.

Since then I`ve put a 350 turbo tranny with a shift kit changed teh gears to 308 for the highway. Its driven daily, just finished shaving the handles, and putting a rollpan on the rear. I recessed the license plate into the tail gate and trying to prepare it for paint instead of the black primer. but its a great truck and I always looking for parts.

Notes: Well, the FRoG is nearly done... it's alive, it stops, and it steers. Since my last post of nearly a year ago, lots has gone on. I found a plastic post Quadratrac Wagoneer fuel tank to clear the new driveshaft. It was built by the best driveshaft shop on Earth: Driveline Service of Portland. (a little bias for I worked there 20 years ago.) Little by little and with some help from my friends we got the cab mounted on homemade brackets. That took the longest time of anything to set up. But once it was done, it ain't going anywhere. The engine after nearly two years of sitting, started right up and the 5 speed Trooper tranny is way quieter than the 4 speed it originally had. The box is mocked up for now, I'm still deciding to bob it or leave it. Somehow that dreaded 'import' overhang remains.. but then again I like the Chevy 6'8" idea of their short box. Once I refit the front fenders to match the front wheels' location it shouldn't look as weird. Bigger tires would help too. But I'll let the pics speak for themselves. It's turning out to being quite the project. In the Bible it says, "Nothing is impossible with God." Given that I'm what they call, "Low vision" or on the ragged edge of legally blind in the best eye... I can attest to the fact that verse is true. May the testimony and the pics be an encouragement to anyone out there who's going through hard times. Just gotta hang in there, trust Jesus, and go for it. Shalom, Marty

Notes: I am a 19 year old stuck out in the middle of no where and had to have a project. I had the idea of putting a v8 in a LUV truck, but all my friends and those who I wasn't exactly friends with around here said I couldn't do it by myself so I decided to prove them wrong. This is a 1978 short bed that had been through multiple heart transplants including Toyota 22r and 20r. I swapped it out to the current motor which is a GM Goodwrench 350 hooked up to a 350 turbo tranny which I just happened to come across from the same dealer that the LUV had been at a year before I purchased it. I added Edelbrock 600cfm carb sitting on an Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, and topped with a chrome Edelbrock air cleaner. Patriot Tight Truck headers leading back to 30" glasspacks give it that well known v8 sound, but is still relatively quiet. I purchased a Spectra chrome kit an chrome valve cover mount wire deviders which accompanied by the Edelbrock products really set it out from how it once looked. To increase power I removed everything on the front except the water pump, and I will only be running fully synthetic oil (not cheap) to reduce the friction in this relatively high mileage motor. Currently the truck is in my garage due to the fact that I have had too many complaints since I started driving it (people don't like it when someone with youth in my town does something right). Future plans include a LT1 350 which I will order (as most of my other parts) through JEGS. I would like to thank my boss for allowing me the use of the company shop and engine lift (fork lift), and the JEGS associates for their assistance.

I got this truck in Oct. 03 from my father, as my son is now 9yrs. old. Is being re-done again now. Currently in paint shop. I installed a new 2-inch lift. 15x7 chevy rallys w/ flat disc brake covers (machined front for hubs). 235-75-15 all terrain tires. I have new hickey dbl tube rear bumper, hickey roll bar, and hickey grille guard to be installed. Will repaint original paint code. Hope my son will not think this is too goofey for him.
