Notes: I only paid $300 at an auction. The guy that had it before me put a header, 2 1/2 in. exhaust, alternator, and a lot of other stuff into the engine, the Luv runs great. I’ve lowered it by 2 ¾ inches in front and 3 inches in the back; I hope to get a step-side for it soon. I’ve also redone the interior, new prelude seats ($40) and redid the dash there was nothing left of it, new door panels, carpet and the like, all work done by me and my tight budget. Would like to eventually put a 4.3 in it and coil over shocks. |

Notes: Body-Front fender flares, chin spoiler all molded as one.L-88 Corvette scoop molded to hood.Top has been chopped 9.5",made to look like a Camaro T top, but without the T, open all the way across. From the cab back, the rear frame rails have been shortened 2',leaf springs deleted, now uses ladder bars and air bags.Box is only as wide as the frame rails, the tilting flatbed is cab width at the front, but a foot wider at the rear, overall length is 4.5'.The bed is made of oak & birch. The Luv rearend was replaced with a same dimension Dana 44 posi, and with 29-1850-50 M.T.'s on 15X14 wheels,it makes for a 6'3" rear track, nasty footprints too!Rear fenders started out as boat trailer items cut,widened,re-radiused,bobbed.Running boards tie the front flares to the rear fenders.Other body mods include frenched antenna, shaved door handles, filled side marker lights, etc.Color is 92 Ford aqua, interior is charcoal tweed.Interior consists of Honda buckets, full length custom console with Auto Meter gauges. The engine is a warmed over 305 sbc, headers, cam,Edelbrock carb & manifold. The trans is a Muncie m-21 4 spd, outback is the Dana 44 posi with 3.73's.All of the design, fabrication, work was performed by me (exception-paint). I purchased this truck new in 78,this is the third go-around for it,and you know their never done, thats what makes it fun.Already have plans for the next round!I showed the truck in the 03 Portland Roadster Show, took second place in "Radical Mini Truck",not bad for first time out.I'll send some pix as soon as I get the software for my computer. Thanks for letting me share. Ray |

Notes: This truck is definatley the love of my life. Its still got the original, from the lot motor with only 163,000. Its got brand new doors which I am in the process of painting so right now it has a lot of bondo on it. But the underpaint is a CAMO GREEN AND TAN. But this truck is defintally a fixer upper so I am open for suggestions especially with helping it not flood out when I am mud riding. Its alo got a 3" body lift wich has really helped me climbing while I am mudding on hills. Its got great mudtires wich has also helped but other than that im still in the process of deciding if i want to turn it into a looker or just keep it for having fun in the mud. So thanks for looking into my car and I hope to here some info and advise. |

Notes: My first Luv to buy was a 1976 and it was bought in 1989. I'll try to find those pictures too. It was a really cool truck with 7 1/2" lowering blocks on it. I bought this Luv in 1996 with a bad motor. I bought two more 4x4s for the extra parts. Then I compiled all my good usable parts and took the engine to the machine shop. It is now 2004 and the little 1.8 still runs fine. In 2002 I did the Toyota straight axle conversion. The truck steers and handles fine. I put 38.5 x 14.5 and to my surprize the 1.8 was still able to untrack itself. Although not the most fastest 0 to 60 in the world it still can get you from point A to B. |

Notes: This started out as buying a lil truck, putting a big motor in it, and driving it on the street. I couldnt put very large tires under the fenderwells, so a friend suggested narrowing the frame. As this was being done, he also suggested i get the rearend narrowed,( of course he knew someone who could do all this, lol).I wanted to use the leaf spring suspension to still be able to drive on the street. After much head scratching, and a lil cussing, we figured out the suspension wasnt going to work. A friend was re-building his race car, and building a new ladder bar set-up, so we found a "new" rear end set-up.After my wife saw a racecar roll, and crash, she decided i needed a rollcage.(what a thoughtful wife). I now have a narrowed ford 9 inch rearend with 4.86 gears in the back. It is tubbed, and sheeted in the back, the battery has been moved to the back, rollcage installed, and ready to go. With a new Chevy 383 engine, and a powerglide transmission with 5500 stall converter and transbrake, on pump gas, i'm running a best of 11.24, at 118 mph in the quarter mile. Its been a 7 year project, and it will never be completed, lol. Plans are for sheeting the back to enclose the fuel cell and battery, and to paint the truck bright yellow, with teal and purple stripes.i hope everyone has a project like this, and can look back over the years, and think to themselves ,,,,,, What The Hell Was I Thinking ??!! LOL. |

and it is tubed. This truck runs 7.0 on motor and 6.30 on a 175
shot of nos. I did everything to this truck myself {paint, motor
interior, roll cage, rear end, the only thing I did not do is
the trans}. I've taken it to Texas raceway, Denton dragway, Yellow belly, and Ceder Creek race track. |

Notes: I've run Luv trucks in the rural news delivery business since 1986. I switched to a 91 S-10 in 93, and also a new S-10 in 97. But, I've always kept a Luv truck as a backup, and once a week driver on the route. Here are some facts: the Chevy Luv can handle about 4000 lb's of weight with no problem. Unlike my 91 S-10, which wore out the axle seals a number of times and dragged down low with lots of weight. The chevy Luv is amazing in snow. With a load of 500lb's or more in the back the Luv can do great in snow with rear wheel drive/snow tires. Unlike, my S-10's which just don't grip as well. I still use her every sunday delivery with papers piled as high as the roof all the way to the back. My new project is to put a 1.8 L or 2.2L Diesel engine in a 79 Luv, anyone know any thing about that? |

Notes: My 1974 Luv which I refer to as my 1stLUV, was restored to look almost totally stock. However it does have an Olds 350 with four speed overdrive automatic transmission, and an S-10 3.08:1 limited slip rear end. It also has factory air conditioning, power steering, and disc brakes. I also had to add a one and a half inch body lift to get the hood to close. Hope you like it. Thanks, Bill |
