Notes: This is my first Luv. Aluminum head 383 7.40 is my best pass with a 1.65 60 foot. Still have a long way to go but I am hoping for 7.20's on the motor and 6.20's on the bottle while putting about 1000 miles on it a year. |

Notes: I've a 1982 Chev Luv with 208K miles on it. Hadn't driven it for 7 years, stored in WA state -- used it to travel around the "lower 48" years past. Decided I wanted to have it up here in AK so I flew down May 2, got it running and drove it up the ALCAN highway. Great trip -- pretty uneventful except for the fabulous wildlife viewing and scenery -- all of which I expected having driven it several times before. My water pump went out on me in Glenallen, which was about 138 miles from home. My wife came & escorted me back in our big truck part way, then had to tow me the rest of the way. Not bad really, over 2700 miles without any problems.
But now I need a water pump, and I'd like to replace the alternator too. Anyone have any good source for parts? Please email me if you do. Thanks and good luck with your LUV
Hank

Notes: I have just bought this luv. This is my 2nd luv it needs a little work on the carb. It has the orginal motor with less than 500 miles on the rebilt. The paint needs a lot of work. The florbord has a lot of places that have rust holes in it. The daish is baddly cracked. The seat has been recovered. This truck very unique in that it has a automatic trans. it has the orginal am/fm raido with two 5 what spekers I luv this truck!!! |

Notes: My Grandparents bought the truck new in Harrison Arkansas. I have owned the truck for 9 years now. Have only used the four wheel drive one time when we had a ice storm on Thanksgiving Day. I have completely lost count of the milage since the odometer has rolled to zero so many times. Now the little truck is finally needing some attention. It needs a fuel pump, fuel relay, fan clutch, new dashboard and the seat needs redone. Also needs the air conditioning hoses replaced. This has been the best longest lasting vehicle I have ever owned by far. Since the engine is still in good shape and uses no oil I plan on fixing these problems and drive it even more. Must say I love my LUV (light utility vehicle). |

Notes: 1.8L engine from '79 Luv, gonna be dropping in a 350 small block that I'm picking up from my pop for $50. woot!! Needs to be rebuilt, and still need the rest of the drivetrain, but hey, that's why they call it a "project". has custom-made flatbed with removable side-rails. Looks pretty sweet IMO. Just got done re-doing the interior... Herculiner on the floor and walls, painted dash / cover pad / steering column blue & black. New blue / black racing seats, Going to be modifying the bed to accomodate easy loading and securing of my dirtbikes. |

Notes: I got my LUV when I was a freshman in high school; since then I've had it painted and I had the seat and carpet refurbished. A few years ago I put an aftermarket stereo system in. It still has a 1.8L engine. I'm looking for mostly cosmedic parts. I want to restore it to an original conditions with some high tech modifications. I'm very happy with my LUV and I'll never get rid of it. |

Notes: This is the third time i have owned this truck. 1.8L gas with 4sp trans. I parked the 75 F350 and found this truck to work out of again. Little truck gets 25+mpg vs 9mpg for big truck. No contest with gas at $2.20/gal.It looks bad but starts and runs everyday. |

LUV: 1980 4x4

Location: Cincinnati,

Forum Name: Big daddy luv
Notes: Tis truck is a good 4x4 and it is an all around good running truck.I've crashed it off a 20 foot hill and rolled it 4 times and it doesn't even have a scratch on it. It has also been upgraded to be completely bullet proof so the cops cant stop me when i rob banks. It has a 383 stroker bored 35 thousandths over and will run low 5's but that is in four wheel drive. I havn't took it down the strip in 2 wheel yet but i would say that i could hit low fours with it though. It has only been stuck in a 4 and a half foot deep mud hole but i dropped her in 4 wheel and kicked in the nos and turbos and pulled right out of it. When it rock crawled i rolled it down a 195 foot rock face but with my scratch resistant sides and dent resistant sides it never scratched it or dented it. It has one major mechanical defect though, at 220 the wheel and the gear shifter starts to shake a little but i don't know what thats from but as long as you hold your hands tight it won't hurt anything. Last year it took 1st at the 20 feet deep mud run because i got a 150 mph run at the pit and hydroplaned across it. all the other competitors sunk and died. Well thats about half the stuff thats happened in it.Oh and its also submersible. |
