Just wanted to post another quick note about some recent changes to our message boards. In an effort to slow down the advertising spammers we have made registration a bit more difficult by requiring a more difficult authentication code. The code is case sensitive so make sure you don't have your caps lock on. The log is showing a lot of people trying to register and typing in the incorrect code in all lowercase or all caps.

Other changes include:
[list:d9a9a9f0a9][*:d9a9a9f0a9]Web or email links cannot be posted until a member has at least 5 posts.
[*:d9a9a9f0a9]The location field is now required in your profile due to problems with trading/buying/selling in our classified section. If you absolutely insist on remaining anonymous you can always enter a fake location such as "the moon".
[*:d9a9a9f0a9]Unactived users are not shown on the boards member list. Personally I wonder why this was not originally the case with phpbb?
[*:d9a9a9f0a9]Website, Occupation, Interest, and Signature fields are disabled until a member reaches 10 posts.[/list:u:d9a9a9f0a9]
Our moderators and myself are trying to keep the recent advertising spammer explosion to a minimum around here. Some may still get through, so bare with us. The best thing to do if you see a spammer post is to notify a moderator so they can eradicate the post and the member.

We will try these settings and see how things go. Feel free to provide feedback on this issue below.

This group was painstaking. I don't have time to play detective and look through hundreds of peoples email addresses to find out who sent pictures with "my pictures" in the title. Between people not following directions and our hacker, I think I'm going to shut down the picture submission for a while.

Our message board has been upgraded from version 2.0.19 to 2.0.20 today (4/30/06). If anyone notices any issues or problems, please let me know. This update was mostly for security related issues so there won't be many noticeable differences.

I've also removed the "old" chat from the board. Let's face it, it sucked.

We will use the IRC chat for now. I am looking for a new chat that will give stats such as who's chatting and not have an annoying software install popup. So far it looks like we will be switching to SigmaChat, but it's not for sure yet.
